OHSU Department of Emergency Medicine Residency Program - Learn about one of the leading programs in the country

Message from the Department Chairman

John Ma, MD - EM Chair Dear Prospective Residents and Friends:

Thank you for your interest in the Oregon Health & Science University Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Established in 1978, our three-year residency program is nurtured by an energetic and dedicated faculty and administrative staff who form the OHSU Department of Emergency Medicine. The Department has a proud tradition of excellence that will serve you well in your professional life.

The residency program has been carefully crafted to provide you with the clinical breadth and depth of knowledge, skill, judgment, and decision-making capacity that are required for the dynamic work environment of the future. Faculty members recognize the interrelatedness of scientific knowledge, system integration, and human interaction during care delivery and have incorporated this approach into our curricula. Service excellence, as it relates to patient care and customer satisfaction, is a priority of our emergency department.

The Department of Emergency Medicine also has active, nationally recognized medical toxicology, emergency medical services, global health, and research programs. Medical simulation and emergency ultrasound are actively being incorporated into our education and research programs. Collectively, all of these programs infuse the Department and our Emergency Medicine Residency Program with innovations and unique learning opportunities.

We are proud that OHSU is considered a nationally recognized emergency medicine residency program. We consistently match medical students from all across the United States and we believe that geographic diversity is one of our real strengths. We invite you to view our web site and to apply for admission. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
